To make a DIY shag rug, you will need:
- Fabric (old t-shirts, rags, or fabric remnants work well)
- Rug liner (optional)
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Hot glue gun
- Sewing needle and thread (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut your fabric into strips. The width of the strips will determine the thickness of your rug. For a shaggy rug, cut your strips 1-2 inches wide.
- If you are using a rug liner, cut it to the size and shape of your desired rug.
- Begin knotting the fabric strips to the rug liner. To do this, loop the strip around the rug liner and then tie it in a knot. Continue knotting strips until the entire rug is covered.
- Once the rug is knotted, trim the ends of the fabric strips to create a shaggy effect.
- If desired, you can use a hot glue gun to secure the knots in place.
- To finish, you can sew a border around the edge of the rug (optional).
Tips:
- For a more durable rug, use a heavy-duty fabric such as canvas or denim.
- If you are using a rug liner, make sure to choose one that is non-slip.
- To create a more even rug, knot the fabric strips tightly.
- To create a more textured rug, knot the fabric strips loosely.
- You can also use different colors and textures of fabric to create a unique design.
