To make a simple DIY butterfly feeder, you will need:
- A used glass jar
- Garden twine
- A colorful paper flower
- 1 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
Instructions:
- Mix the sugar and water in the glass jar until the sugar is dissolved.
- Cut a hole in the lid of the jar with a nail and hammer.
- Thread a piece of twine through the hole in the lid and tie a knot on the inside of the jar.
- Cut a small sponge into a rectangle and thread it onto the twine.
- Tie another knot on the twine below the sponge to secure it in place.
- Tie the other end of the twine to a tree branch or other support.
- Hang the feeder upside down in your garden.
- The sponge will soak up the sugar water and slowly release it, attracting butterflies to your garden.
Tips:
- You can also use a piece of colorful cloth or ribbon instead of a paper flower to attract butterflies.
- If you live in a hot climate, place the feeder in a shady spot to prevent the sugar water from overheating.
- Clean the feeder regularly to prevent the growth of bacteria.
