To build a simple ladder bookshelf, you will need the following materials:
- 2x2x8 lumber for the frame
- 1x2x8 lumber for the shelves
- ¾” plywood for the back of the bookshelf
- Wood glue
- Pocket hole screws
- 2 ½” wood screws
Cut the lumber to the following lengths:
- Front legs: 2 @ 72” (miter ends at 9-degree angles)
- Back legs: 2 @ 70 7/8”
- Top and bottom crosspieces: 2 @ 2 ½” (miter one end at 9 degrees)
- Shelves: 3 @ 24”
Assemble the frame by attaching the front and back legs to the top and bottom crosspieces using wood glue and pocket hole screws. Then, attach the shelves to the frame using wood glue and 2 ½” wood screws.
Once the frame is assembled, cut the plywood to size for the back of the bookshelf. Attach the plywood to the back of the bookshelf using wood glue and 2 ½” wood screws.
Finally, sand and finish the bookshelf as desired.
