To make a DIY window cornice, you will need:
- Wood for the frame (1x2s or plywood)
- Fabric
- Batting
- D-rings
- Staple gun
- Wood screws
- Miter saw
- Drill
- Measure the width of your window and add 6 inches. This will be the length of your cornice board.
- Cut the wood for your frame to size.
- Assemble the frame using wood screws.
- Cut your fabric and batting to size, leaving enough overlap to wrap and cover the cornice board around all the edges.
- Layer your fabric face down on a flat surface with your batting on top.
- Place the cornice board in the center of the fabric and batting.
- Wrap the fabric around the cornice board, starting in the middle and working your way to the edges.
- Secure the fabric with staples.
- Attach D-rings to the back of the cornice board for hanging.
- Hang the cornice board above your window using screws.
Tips:
- For a more professional look, use mitered cuts on the corners of the cornice frame.
- If you are using a patterned fabric, make sure to center the pattern on the cornice board.
- Use a staple gun with a long staple length to secure the fabric to the cornice board.
- You can also add trim to the cornice board for a more finished look.
