To make a DIY wasp trap, you will need:
- A plastic bottle (2 liters or larger)
- Bait (sugar water, jam, soda, fruit juice, or meat scraps)
- Dish soap
- String or wire
Instructions:
- Cut the bottle in half just below the neck.
- Invert the top portion of the bottle and insert it into the bottom portion, creating a funnel.
- Tape the two pieces together around the cut edge.
- Poke two holes in the rim of the trap and attach a string or wire for hanging.
- Pour the bait into the bottom of the trap, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
- Add a few drops of dish soap to the bait.
- Hang the trap in an area where you have seen wasps.
The wasps will be attracted to the bait and enter the trap through the funnel. Once inside, they will be unable to escape and will drown in the soapy water.
Tips:
- For best results, use a variety of baits.
- Place the traps in areas where wasps are active, such as near garbage cans, picnic tables, and fruit trees.
- Empty the traps regularly and dispose of the dead wasps.
Note: Do not use honey as bait, as it will attract bees.
