DIY tile shower:
- Prep the shower area by removing old tile or fiberglass, installing a vapor barrier and cement board, and waterproofing the walls and floor.
- Plan your tile layout by marking vertical and horizontal center lines on the walls.
- Mix thin-set mortar and apply it to the back of the first tile using a notched trowel.
- Press the tile firmly into place, using spacers to ensure consistent grout lines.
- Continue adding tiles, working from the center outward.
- Once all the tiles are in place, allow the thin-set mortar to dry completely.
- Mix grout and apply it to the joints between the tiles using a grout float.
- Wipe away excess grout with a damp sponge.
- Allow the grout to dry completely.
- Seal the grout with a grout sealer.
- Caulk the edges of the shower pan and around the shower head and fixtures.

- Use a level to make sure all the tiles are straight.
- Use a wet saw to cut tiles.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves when working with tile and mortar.
