Diy Roman Shades

DIY Roman shades are a simple and affordable way to update your windows. With just a few basic supplies and some basic sewing skills, you can create custom Roman shades that perfectly match your décor.

To make DIY Roman shades, you will need:

• Fabric (enough to cover your window plus 6 inches in length and 2 inches in width)
• Lining fabric (optional)
• 1×2 pine board (cut to the width of your window)
• Two screw eyes

• Ten small cabone rings
• Shade-and-blind cord
• Cleat (with fasteners)
• #8 wood screws

Instructions:

1. Cut your fabric to size. Be sure to add 6 inches in length and 2 inches in width for hemming and dowel pockets.
2. If you are using a lining fabric, sew it to the back of your main fabric.
3. Hem the sides and bottom of your shade.
4. Create the dowel pockets by folding the fabric over 1/2 inch and sewing in place. Repeat this at the top and bottom of your shade, and in between at intervals of 12-18 inches.
5. Insert the dowels into the pockets.
6. Attach the screw eyes to the top of the pine board.
7. Thread the cord through the rings and attach it to the screw eyes.
8. Attach the cleat to the wall next to your window.
9. Loop the cord around the cleat and secure it with a knot.
10. Hang your Roman shade on the wall using the screw eyes.

To operate your Roman shade, simply pull the cord to raise or lower it. The rings will slide along the cord and fold the shade accordingly.

Here are some tips for making DIY Roman shades:

• Choose a fabric that is light enough to fold easily, but sturdy enough to hold its shape.
• If you are using a lining fabric, be sure to choose one that is the same width as your main fabric.
• When creating the dowel pockets, be sure to fold the fabric over so that the dowels are hidden from view.
