To make a DIY pool cover, you will need:
- A tarp large enough to cover your pool, plus an extra 1-2 feet on all sides
- Bungee cords
- Measuring tape
- Sharp knife
- Heavy-duty needle and thread (optional)
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Weight to hold the cover down (such as water-filled jugs or sandbags)
Instructions:
- Measure the dimensions of your pool.
- Cut the tarp to size, adding 1-2 feet on all sides for overhang.
- If desired, sew the seams of the tarp to make it more durable.
- Attach grommets to the edges of the tarp, spaced about every 1-2 feet.
- Thread bungee cords through the grommets and secure them to the deck or coping around your pool.
- Place weights on the perimeter of the cover to keep it in place.
If you have an above-ground pool, you may also want to consider adding a pool cover reel to make it easier to put on and take off the cover.
