A DIY hoop house is a simple, inexpensive greenhouse that can be built using cattle fencing or PVC hoops wrapped in greenhouse plastic covering. It can be built in a raised bed or as a row cover in a garden bed. Hoop houses extend the growing season by providing a warmer environment for plants, even in the winter.
To build a DIY hoop house, you will need:
- Metal fencing or PVC hoops
- Rebar stakes
- Wooden boards
- Mason line
- Zip ties
- Greenhouse plastic covering
Instructions:
- Cut the rebar stakes into approximately 2-foot lengths.
- Use the mason line to mark out the straight rows for your hoop house.
- Drive the rebar stakes into the ground at the ends of each row.
- Bend the metal fencing or PVC hoops into arches and secure them to the rebar stakes using zip ties.
- Attach the greenhouse plastic covering to the hoops using zip ties.
- Secure the wooden boards to the base of the hoop house to create a frame.
Your DIY hoop house is now complete! You can plant your vegetables, herbs, and flowers inside and enjoy a longer growing season.
