Diy Gravel Driveway

To build a DIY gravel driveway, you will need:

• Stakes
• String or twine
• Shovel
• Wheelbarrow
• Level
• Plate compactor (optional)
• Weed barrier fabric (optional)
• Base layer gravel (2-3 inches)
• Surface layer gravel (1-2 inches)

Instructions:

1. Stake out the path of your driveway and mark the edges with string or twine.
2. Clear grass and topsoil from the staked area to a depth of 4-6 inches.
3. Level the ground along the path of the driveway.
4. Lay down a layer of weed barrier fabric (optional).
5. Spread a layer of base layer gravel over the weed barrier fabric (or directly onto the ground).
6. Compact the base layer of gravel with a plate compactor (optional).
7. Spread a layer of surface layer gravel over the base layer.

• If you live in an area with cold winters, you can use a frost blanket between the sub-base layer and the base layer of gravel to prevent frost heave.
• To keep weeds from growing through your driveway, you can apply a layer of pre-emergent herbicide to the weed barrier fabric (or directly to the ground) before installing the base layer of gravel.
• You may need to add additional gravel to your driveway over time as it settles and becomes compacted.
