DIY Floating Dock:
Materials:
- Pressure-treated lumber or other deck material
- Marine-grade stainless steel or galvanized hardware
- Floats (foam-filled, encapsulated, or barrel)
- Anchors and mooring lines
Instructions:
- Measure and mark out where your floating dock installation will be. Take water depth, hazards and required access into account when measuring and marking.
- Construct a frame for your dock using pressure-treated lumber or other deck material. Use galvanized or marine-grade stainless steel screws or bolts to connect the frame.
- Attach the floats to the underside of the dock frame. Make sure to space the floats evenly to ensure adequate buoyancy and safety. Secure the floats to the dock with marine-grade stainless steel or galvanized hardware.
- Apply a marine-grade sealant to the floats.
- Install anchors and mooring lines to secure the dock in place.
Tips:
- Use a flotation capacity formula to calculate the required number of floats for your dock.
- Drill pilot holes for lag bolt installation.
- Use a large flat washer for every lag bolt.
- Inspect your dock regularly and make repairs as needed.
