DIY Dog Run

• Location and Size: Choose a location for your dog run that is sunny, well-drained, and away from any hazards. The size of the run will depend on the size and breed of your dog. A good rule of thumb is to provide at least four times as much space as your dog’s body length.

• Prepare the Area: Remove any grass or other vegetation from the area where you will be building the run. Level the ground and add a layer of gravel or sand to improve drainage.

• Install the Fencing: The most common type of fencing for dog runs is chain-link. However, you can also use wood, vinyl, or other materials. Be sure to choose a fence that is tall enough to prevent your dog from escaping.

• Add the Floor: The floor of your dog run can be made of concrete, gravel, or wood chips. If you choose to use concrete, be sure to create a rough surface to prevent your dog from slipping.

• Add Extras: Once the basic structure of your dog run is complete, you can add extras such as a shade cover, a water bowl, and toys. You may also want to consider adding a ramp or stairs so that your dog can easily enter and exit the run.

Tips:

• Be sure to bury the bottom of the fence at least 6 inches below ground level to prevent your dog from digging out.
• If you are building a wooden fence, be sure to use treated wood to prevent it from rotting.
• If you are using gravel or sand for the floor of your dog run, be sure to rake it out regularly to remove any waste.
• Provide your dog with plenty of fresh water and shade in the run.
• Supervise your dog while they are in the run, especially if they are new to the enclosure.
