DIY bunny cage:
Materials:
- Wire mesh with 1/2-inch spacing or less
- Wood for the frame and floor
- Hinges and latches for the doors
- Hardware cloth for the bottom of the cage (optional)
- Waterproof sealant
- Tools: saw, drill, screwdriver, staple gun
Instructions:
- Cut the wood to size for the frame and floor of the cage.
- Assemble the frame using screws or nails.
- Attach the wire mesh to the frame using staples.
- Cut a hole in the wire mesh for the door.
- Attach the door to the frame using hinges and latches.
- If desired, attach hardware cloth to the bottom of the cage to prevent your rabbit from digging.
- Apply a waterproof sealant to the wood to protect it from moisture.
Tips:
- Make sure the cage is big enough for your rabbit to move around comfortably. A good rule of thumb is to make the cage at least four times longer than your rabbit’s body.
- Provide your rabbit with a hiding place, such as a cardboard box or a house made of hay.
- Include a variety of toys in the cage to keep your rabbit entertained.
- Clean the cage regularly to prevent the buildup of bacteria and odors.
Safety:
- Make sure the wire mesh is secure and that there are no sharp edges that could injure your rabbit.
- Place the cage in a safe location away from drafts and direct sunlight.
- Keep the cage clean and free of debris.
- Monitor your rabbit closely when it is outside of the cage.
