To make a simple DIY steel target stand, you will need:
- 3 pieces of rebar (1/2 inch diameter)
- 3 pieces of scrap 2×4
- Spring clamps or binder clips
- Scrap cardboard
- Angle grinder with a cut-off wheel
- Spray paint (optional)
Instructions:
- Measure out three equal lengths of rebar.
- Bend the rebar into a 90-degree angle at one end.
- Use the angle grinder to cut the base of the rebar feet into sharp points.
- Clamp the scrap cardboard to the top of the rebar stand to create a platform for hanging your targets.
- Spray paint the stand (optional).
- To use the stand, simply hammer the rebar feet into the ground.
You can also make a more portable steel target stand by using PVC pipe instead of rebar. Simply cut the PVC pipe to the desired length and connect the pieces using PVC fittings. Then, follow the steps above to add the cardboard platform and spray paint the stand (optional).
Once your stand is complete, you can hang any type of steel target from it, such as paper targets, clay targets, or reactive steel targets. Be sure to wear eye and ear protection when shooting at steel targets.
