Materials:

  • Fabric (in desired colors)
  • Wire
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Beads
  • Elastic
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut out two wing shapes from fabric.
  2. Sew the two wing shapes together, leaving a small opening at the top.
  3. Turn the wings right side out and stuff them with wire to keep them stiff.
  4. Sew the opening at the top of the wings closed.
  5. Thread elastic or ribbon through the top of the wings to create straps.
  6. To make the antennae, twist two pipe cleaners together and secure them with a bead at the end.
  7. Attach the antennae to a headband.
  8. Wear the wings and antennae to complete your butterfly costume!

Tips:

  • Use different colors and patterns of fabric to create a unique butterfly costume.
  • Add glitter or sequins to your wings for extra sparkle.
  • If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand sew the wings together.
  • You can also make a butterfly costume out of paper or felt.
  • Accessorize your costume with butterfly makeup and jewelry.
