DIY Exterior House Painting

Prep work:

1. Pressure wash the house to remove dirt and debris.
2. Repair any damaged siding or trim.
3. Caulk around windows and doors to prevent leaks.
4. Sand any rough surfaces.
5. Mask off any areas you don’t want to paint, such as windows, doors, and light fixtures.

Painting:

1. Apply a coat of primer to the entire house. This will help the paint adhere better and last longer.
2. Apply two coats of exterior paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
3. Remove the masking tape and touch up any areas that need it.

Tips:

• Choose the right paint for your climate and the material of your house exterior.
• Paint on a dry day when the temperature is between 50 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Work in the shade whenever possible to prevent the paint from drying too quickly.
• Use a paintbrush for trim and corners, and a roller for large areas.
• Be sure to overlap your strokes by 8 inches to ensure even coverage.
• Clean up your brushes and rollers immediately after use.
