DIY Tie Dye Tapestry

Materials:

• White cotton tapestry
• Tie dye dye kit
• Gloves
• Rubber bands
• Large plastic bin
• Cooling rack
• Plastic tarp or tablecloth

Instructions:

1. Prepare your workspace by covering your table or counter with a plastic tarp or tablecloth. Place a cooling rack over the top to keep your tapestry from sitting in puddles of dye.
2. Put on your gloves and mix your tie dye dye according to the package instructions.
3. Lay your tapestry out flat on the cooling rack.
4. Choose a tie dye technique and tie rubber bands around your tapestry to create the desired design.
5. Apply the dye to your tapestry using a squirt bottle or sponge. Be sure to cover all sides of the tapestry.
6. Once you have applied all of the dye, let your tapestry sit for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
7. Rinse your tapestry under cold water until the water runs clear.
8. Remove the rubber bands and untie your tapestry.
9. Wash your tapestry in the washing machine on a cold cycle with mild detergent.
10. Dry your tapestry on a low heat setting in the dryer.

Tips:

• For a more vibrant color, soak your tapestry in a soda ash solution before applying the dye.
• To create a more detailed design, use smaller rubber bands and tie them tighter.
• If you make a mistake, you can simply rinse the dye out of the affected area and start over.
• Be sure to wear gloves and old clothes when tie dying, as the dye can stain.
