To make a DIY nursing cover, you will need:
- 1 1/2 yards of fabric
- A set of 1-inch D rings
- 14 inches of boning
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Sewing scissors
- Measuring tape
- Steam iron
Instructions:
- Cut out a 26-inch by 36-inch piece of fabric for the main piece.
- Cut out a 28-inch by 3-inch piece for the long strap.
- Cut out a 10-inch by 3-inch piece of fabric for the side straps with D rings.
- Sew the long strap to one side of the main piece, about 6 inches from the top.
- Sew the side straps to the bottom of the main piece, about 6 inches from the sides.
- Insert the boning into the top of the main piece, between the straps.
- Sew the top of the main piece closed, leaving a small opening for the boning to exit.
- Turn the nursing cover right side out and iron it flat.
- Thread the D rings onto the side straps.
To use the nursing cover, simply drape it over your head and shoulders while breastfeeding. The boning at the top will help to keep the cover open so that you can see your baby.
