Diy Nesting Boxes

DIY nesting boxes are a great way to provide your chickens with a comfortable and safe place to lay their eggs. They are also relatively easy to build, even if you are a beginner woodworking enthusiast.

To build a DIY nesting box, you will need the following materials:

• Wood (plywood, cedar, or pine are all good options)
• Screws or nails
• Saw
• Drill
• Measuring tape
• Pencil
• Hinges (optional)
• Latch (optional)
• Nesting material (straw, wood shavings, etc.)

Once you have your materials, follow these steps to build your nesting box:

1. Cut your wood to size. The dimensions of your nesting box will depend on the size of your chickens. A good rule of thumb is to make the box 12 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 14 inches tall.
2. Assemble the box. Screw or nail the sides to the top and bottom of the box. If you want to add a hinged lid, screw the hinges to the back of the box and the lid.
3. Add a perch. Screw a perch to the front of the box, about 2 inches below the top edge. This will give your chickens a place to land before entering the box.
4. Add nesting material. Fill the bottom of the box with nesting material, such as straw or wood shavings.
5. Mount the nesting box in your chicken coop. Place the box in a quiet, dark corner of the coop. You can screw or nail the box to the wall, or you can use a nesting box stand.

Once your nesting box is complete, your chickens should start using it right away. Be sure to check the box regularly and collect the eggs daily.
