
Popeye Costume DIY
Materials:
- Black shirt
- Light blue fabric
- Red fabric
- Large buttons
- Black yarn
- White pillow stuffing
- Yellow belt
- Corn cob
- Green foam
- Spinach can label
- Sailor hat (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut off the sleeves and bottom of the black shirt to make a tunic.
- Cut two strips of light blue fabric long enough to wrap around the sleeves of the tunic. Sew the fabric strips to the sleeves.
- Cut a triangle out of the red fabric for Popeye’s kerchief. Sew the edges of the kerchief.
- Sew three large buttons to the front of the tunic.
- To make Popeye’s forearms, cut two pieces of white pillow stuffing into sausages. Stuff them into black stockings and tie the ends off with black yarn.
- To make Popeye’s pipe, cut a piece of green foam into the shape of a pipe. Glue a corn cob to the end of the pipe.
- To make Popeye’s spinach can label, cut out a rectangle of green paper and write "Spinach" on it. Glue the label to a small can.
Assembly:
- Put on the black tunic and tie the yellow belt around your waist.
- Put on the red kerchief and tie it under your chin.
- Put on the black stockings filled with pillow stuffing.
- Insert the corn cob pipe into your mouth.
- Hold the spinach can label in your hand.
- If you have a sailor hat, put it on.
Tips:
- If you don’t have a black shirt, you can use a different color shirt, but black will look the most authentic.
- If you don’t have a light blue fabric, you can use a different color fabric, but light blue will look the most authentic.
- If you don’t have large buttons, you can use smaller buttons or sew on a piece of fabric with buttons on it.
- If you don’t have black yarn, you can use a different color yarn.
- If you don’t have white pillow stuffing, you can use cotton balls or another type of stuffing.
- If you don’t have a yellow belt, you can use a different color belt.
- If you don’t have a corn cob, you can use a wooden dowel or another type of pipe.
- If you don’t have green foam, you can use another type of material to make the pipe.
- If you don’t have a spinach can label, you can draw one on paper and cut it out.
