Diy Bar Soap

To make DIY bar soap, you will need:

• Oils or fats (such as coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil)
• Lye (sodium hydroxide)
• Distilled water
• Essential oils (optional)
• Colorants (optional)
• Dried herbs or flowers (optional)

Safety is important when making soap, so be sure to wear gloves and eye protection.

1. Measure your ingredients and put on your safety gear.
2. Prepare the lye solution by slowly adding lye to water (not water to lye!). The solution will become hot and release fumes, so work carefully and quickly.
3. Heat the oils or fats until melted.
4. Once the lye solution and oils have cooled to the same temperature (between 80 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit), add the lye solution to the oils and blend with an immersion blender until the mixture reaches a light trace (when the mixture drips back into itself, it leaves a trail for a few seconds).
5. Add essential oils, colorants, and dried herbs or flowers (if desired) and stir to combine.
6. Pour the soap batter into a mold and let it cure for at least 4 weeks before using.
