To install an under-deck ceiling, you will need:
- 2x4s for the joists and purlins
- Roofing panels (such as corrugated metal or PVC)
- Flashing
- Screws
- A saw
- A drill
- Measuring tape
- Level
- Safety gear (goggles, gloves, etc.)
Instructions:
- Clean the underside of your deck and remove any debris.
- Measure and mark the locations for the joists. The joists should run parallel to the house and be spaced 16 inches on center.
- Cut the joists to length and attach them to the deck joists using screws.
- Measure and mark the locations for the purlins. The purlins should run perpendicular to the joists and be spaced 36 inches on center.
- Cut the purlins to length and attach them to the joists using screws.
- Install the flashing along the edges of the deck and around any posts or other obstructions.
- Install the roofing panels, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Overlap the panels by 6 inches and attach them to the purlins using screws.
- Trim any excess flashing and roofing panels.
Once your under-deck ceiling is installed, you can enjoy a more comfortable and inviting outdoor space.
