To make a DIY duvet cover, you will need two pieces of fabric that are the same size as your duvet insert, plus an additional 10 inches on all sides for seam allowances. You can use any type of fabric for your duvet cover, but cotton is a popular choice because it is soft and breathable.
Once you have your fabric, wash and dry it to prevent any shrinking. Then, lay the two pieces of fabric right sides together and pin them around the edges, leaving a 10-inch gap on one of the long sides. This gap will be the opening for your duvet insert.
Sew the two pieces of fabric together along the pinned edges, using a half-inch seam allowance. Once you have finished sewing, trim the excess fabric and turn the duvet cover right side out.
Iron the duvet cover flat, then topstitch around the edges to secure the seams. You can also add ties or buttons to the opening to keep your duvet insert in place.
Once your duvet cover is finished, simply insert your duvet and enjoy!
