DIY Farmhouse Bench

Materials:

• 2×4 lumber
• 4×4 lumber
• Wood screws
• Wood glue
• Stain (optional)
• Polyurethane (optional)

Tools:

• Miter saw
• Drill
• Impact driver
• Tape measure
• Safety glasses
• Ear protection
• Mask

Instructions:

1. Cut the lumber to the following dimensions:

   • 2x4s:
     • 2 pieces at 57" long for the seat
     • 2 pieces at 14 1/2" long for the supports
     • 1 piece at 53 1/2" long for the stretcher
   • 4x4s:
     • 4 pieces at 18" long for the legs
     • 2 pieces at 13 1/2" long for the diagonal braces

2. Assemble the legs and supports:

   • Attach the supports to the inside of the legs using 2" screws and glue.
   • Make sure the legs are square and the supports are flush with the top of the legs.

3. Assemble the stretcher:

   • Attach the stretcher to the bottom of the legs using 2 1/2" screws and glue.
   • Make sure the stretcher is centered between the legs.

4. Attach the diagonal braces:

   • Cut the diagonal braces at a 45 degree angle at each end.
   • Attach the diagonal braces to the inside of the legs using 2 1/2" screws and glue.

5. Attach the seat:

   • Center the seat on top of the frame and attach it using 2 1/2" screws and glue.

6. Finish the bench:

   • Sand the bench lightly and apply a coat of stain (optional).
   • Apply two coats of polyurethane to protect the finish (optional).

Tips:

• Use a level to make sure the bench is level before attaching the seat.
• Pre-drill the holes for the screws to prevent the wood from splitting.
• Use a damp cloth to wipe away any excess glue.
• Allow the stain and polyurethane to dry completely before using the bench.
