DIY Bed Bug Trap
Materials:
- Two plastic containers, one smaller than the other
- Rough-surfaced tape
- Glue (optional)
- Baby powder or car polish (optional)
Instructions:
- Line the inside of the smaller container with rough-surface tape. This will give the bed bugs something to grip onto as they climb up into the trap.
- Place the smaller container inside the larger container.
- Apply glue around the rim of the smaller container and press it down firmly into the larger container. This will create a seal so that the bed bugs cannot escape.
- Apply baby powder or car polish to the inside of the larger container and the outside of the smaller container. This will make the surfaces slippery and prevent the bed bugs from climbing out.
- Place the trap under the legs of your bed or other furniture where you suspect bed bugs may be hiding.
How it works:
Bed bugs are attracted to carbon dioxide, which is the gas that we exhale. The trap works by mimicking a human host, releasing carbon dioxide from the smaller container. The bed bugs are lured into the trap and then become trapped by the rough-surface tape.
To check the trap:
Every few days, check the trap for bed bugs. If you see any, simply empty the trap and set it up again.
Tips:
- Place traps under all of the legs of your bed and other furniture.
- Check the traps regularly and empty them as needed.
- If you have a severe bed bug infestation, you may want to use multiple traps or contact a professional pest control company.
