DIY blackout curtains are a great way to save money and get the perfect fit for your windows. They are also relatively easy to make, even if you are a beginner sewer.
To make DIY blackout curtains, you will need:
- Blackout fabric
- Regular fabric for the facing (optional)
- Iron-on adhesive (optional)
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Scissors
- Pins
- Measuring tape
- Curtain rod and hardware
Instructions:
- Measure your windows and add 6 inches to the width and length for seams.
- Cut your blackout fabric and regular fabric (if using) to size.
- If using iron-on adhesive, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to bond the blackout fabric to the back of the regular fabric.
- Pin the two pieces of fabric together, right sides facing.
- Sew around the edges of the fabric, leaving a 6-inch opening at the top for the curtain rod.
- Turn the curtain right side out and trim the excess fabric.
- Hang the curtain on the curtain rod.
If you are not using iron-on adhesive, you can simply sew the two pieces of fabric together, right sides facing, and leave an opening at the top for the curtain rod. Then, turn the curtain right side out and sew the opening closed.
Once your curtains are made, you can enjoy the darkness and privacy that they provide. DIY blackout curtains are a great way to improve your sleep and create a more comfortable and relaxing space.
