Diy Bow Tie

To make a DIY bow tie, you will need:

• Fabric (cotton, linen, or silk work well)
• Interfacing (optional, but will help to stiffen the bow tie)
• Thread
• Sewing needle
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Pins
• Hot glue gun (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cut out two pieces of fabric, each 9 inches by 5 inches.
2. If you are using interfacing, cut out two pieces the same size as the fabric pieces.
3. Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of one of the fabric pieces.
4. Fold the fabric pieces in half lengthwise, with the right sides facing each other.
5. Pin the fabric pieces together, along the long edges and the short edge opposite the folded edge.
6. Sew the fabric pieces together, along the pinned edges, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
7. Leave a small opening in one of the seams, for turning.
8. Trim the corners of the bow tie, to reduce bulk.
9. Turn the bow tie right side out, through the opening.
10. Use a blunt object to push out the corners of the bow tie.
11. Sew the opening closed.
12. To make the bow tie adjustable, cut a strip of fabric, 1 inch wide and 12 inches long.
13. Fold the strip of fabric in half lengthwise, with the right sides facing each other.
14. Sew the long edge of the strip of fabric together, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
15. Turn the strip of fabric right side out.
16. Hot glue the strip of fabric to the back of the bow tie, centered between the two layers of fabric.
17. To tie the bow tie, wrap the strip of fabric around the bow tie and tie it in a knot.
