DIY Chicken Waterer

Supplies:

• 5-gallon bucket
• Drill
• 1-inch hole saw
• Poultry drinking cups (optional)
• Hose (optional)
• Timer (optional)

Instructions:

1. Clean and empty the bucket.
2. Drill one hole for each drinking cup in the side of the bucket, about 1 inch above the bottom.
3. If using poultry drinking cups, insert them into the holes and tighten the nuts.
4. Fill the bucket with water and put the lid on.
5. If desired, connect a hose to the bucket and attach a timer. This will allow you to automatically fill the waterer as needed.

Tips:

• Place the waterer in a shady spot so the water doesn’t get too hot.
• Clean the waterer regularly to prevent bacteria from growing.
• If you’re using poultry drinking cups, make sure the height of the cups is adjusted so that the water level is just below the top of the cup. This will prevent the chickens from spilling water.

Variations:

• Instead of drilling holes in the side of the bucket, you can drill a hole in the bottom and insert a nipple valve. This will create a more automatic watering system, but it’s also more complicated to set up.
• You can also make a DIY chicken waterer out of a variety of other materials, such as a plastic tote bin or a recycled water bottle. Just be sure to choose a material that is safe for chickens and that can hold enough water for your flock.
